Healthcare
Healthcare has become an absolute nightmare for many. Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US, causing financial ruin for millions. Healthcare should be about healing, not profits. How many of us have skipped a doctor visit to save money, only to become sicker? What is happening in the medical industry is simply criminal, and it must be fixed. For the leaders who tell us that healthcare for all is too expensive, I can assure you that a sick population is much more costly. Too many politicians today are taking in money from pharmaceutical and healthcare conglomerates.
Agenda
-
Medicaid expansion should be here to stay in North Carolina, and I will ensure that our state receives the federal funding to make that possible.
-
Veterans should receive the benefits they’re entitled to without having to fight through red tape. They served our country. Now it’s time to serve them.
-
Mental health care and drug rehabilitation programs should be treated as an essential part of healthcare and crime prevention.
-
Reproductive health care needs to be protected and covered by insurance, and conditions that affect fertility should receive additional federal funding for research and to develop treatments.
-
Everyone who wants to start a family should have all the resources available to help them do so, which is why insurance should be required to cover IVF and other fertility treatments.
-
Reduce the maternal mortality rate and provide extra aid for new mothers, including baby boxes for every new birth.
-
Access to contraception and abortion in the event of incest, rape, or the health of the mother needs to be codified in federal law at the very least. The issue of elective abortion may have been given back to the states, but I will work with state legislators to ensure that North Carolinians get to choose for themselves what the law will be here, and that your rights are protected.
