Education and Family

The education system is failing our children. Not the teachers, but the system itself. I have worked some tough jobs, but none that compare to being a teacher. As a homeschooling father of two children, I support parents’ rights to educate their children how they see fit. I also believe that public school teachers need to be paid more, and that we need to invest in our education system so that all children have a fighting chance.

Agenda

  • Eliminate daycare waitlists. Parents shouldn’t have to wait months or even years, sometimes having to plan ahead before even starting a family to secure a spot.

  • Guarantee the necessary funding to allow our public schools to be successful in preparing children for adulthood.

  • Our teachers hold the keys to our children’s future but are too often overlooked and underpaid, I want our educators to be given the respect and support they are due.

  • Stop spending money that should go to public education on private school vouchers and wean the country off of these voucher programs

  • Respect the rights of parents to educate their children how they see fit, whether that’s to homeschool or send their children to a private school, but it shouldn’t take away from public schooling.

  • When it comes to homeschooling, we must find a middle ground between the necessary oversight to ensure children are receiving an education, such as yearly testing, and the freedom for parents to create their own curriculum.

  • Education should be the primary focus of a child’s life, and an after-school job shouldn’t excessively interfere with that. If elected, I will strengthen child labor laws to ensure kids won’t be taken advantage of while making some extra money and gaining valuable work experience.

  • Ensure that all public school students have access to mental health resources

  • Repeal No Child Left Behind and replace with Public Law 114 – Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

  • Ensure students are provided the resources they need to succeed – we have far too many students who have additional learning needs that are not identified and they do not have a chance to succeed.

  • Our education system needs the tools to identify the students who truly need help, by providing them with these tools we can not only significantly lower the crime rates but also provide our struggling youth with a better future.

  • If you decide to go to college, there’s no reason it should cost an arm and a leg. That’s why I will support any measures to lower the ever-rising cost of tuition.

  • Tackle student debt, so young people can start their adult lives without being buried under loans.
