Healthcare

Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US. Healthcare should be about healing, not profits. How many of us have skipped a doctor visit to save money, only to become sicker? What is happening in the medical industry is criminal, and it must be fixed. For the leaders who tell us that healthcare for all is too expensive, I can assure you that a sick population is much more costly. Too many politicians today are taking in money from pharmaceutical and healthcare conglomerates.

Agenda

  • Pass Medicare for All. We already spend too much on healthcare as a nation, and those who are forced to go without insurance due to high costs will only get sicker without care. The cost of healthcare is crushing the working class. It’s moral to create a system where everyone can receive healthcare, and many estimates have found that Medicare for All could cost up to 15% LESS than our current healthcare spending. YOU would also spend less on healthcare out of pocket.

  • Medicare for All would also assist small businesses as health insurance is a huge inhibition to paying livable wages and makes it hard for small businesses to compete with corporations who can offer more lucrative benefit packages. It will also:

    • Open up more competition within the labor market. Workers would be able to move between jobs without fear of losing benefits.

    • Open up the ability for doctors to practice true family medicine by eliminating the web of barriers to reimbursement.

    • Eliminates the middle man of healthcare and allow the physician to focus on the patient.

    • Medicare for All would allow hospitals to open back up in rural communities and specialists to practice in places other than big cities

  • Pass the Medical Debt Relief Act because no one should have medical debt weighing them down for the rest of their lives

  • Expand access to mental healthcare and crisis support,  as well as drug rehabilitation programs as these are essential to having a healthy, safe, and prosperous society.

  • Increase the healthcare workforce and support all of our hardworking nurses, medical technicians, and doctors.

  • Healthcare is a human right, and anyone who tries to restrict access to healthcare due to gender, gender expression, or sexuality misunderstands the core principles of a democratic society.

  • Continue to fund the VA to ensure that our veterans are taken care of and granted the respect they deserve from our government for their service.
